Pepakura Designer 3

The main changes from Pepakura Designer 2

Other detailed changes

(Some of the translations may seem a bit "off," as they were made from machine translations from Japanese. Attempts were made to polish the English for easier reading.)

Screen display

  • The background is now a gradation.
  • You can now change the color of cut and fold lines in a development.
  • Pseudoshadow (Shade) display mode added to see the object as if made from plain paper.
  • Added context (right-click pop-up) menu in 3D model window.
  • Rotation center and viewing angle of 3D model can now be changed.

    File functions

    • There is now the option to sequentially number the file when saving. When this option is turned on, the pdo file is suffixed with an underscore and sequence number each time it is saved ([Ctrl]+S). This keeps backup files by suffixing a number to each save.
    • When copying development to clipboard, the scale option was replaced by resolution.
    • The function was added to export the OBJ form file with the Pepakura Designer development chart when using a UV map.
    • Can now export to not only BMP, but also JPEG, GIF, TIFF, and PNG formats.
    • Added more formats for texturing.
    • The DXF file import feature has improved.
    • The EPS file format export has improved.

    Development editing

    • When rotating parts in the development window, the original centerpoint is kept. This is to keep the part in the same basic original position.
    • Added a grid display option.
    • Improved the line color dialog.
    • Added a Property option to the right-click menu of an added image to specify printed size of the image.
    • When dragging the corner handles of an added image, the aspect ratio is kept.
    • When an image is inserted, it now is placed in the center of the displayed area.
    • When changing the line color, a color from any arbitrary point in the development can be chosen with the eyedropper.
    • Clicking on text starting with "http://" brings up an open dialog for the corresponding URL.
    • When adding a custom color, these new colors are saved even after quitting the application.
    • Even if "Snap to Grid" is enabled, holding down the Alt key while moving will temporarily disable snapping.
    • When rotating parts, holding the Ctrl key limits rotation to 45-degree intervals. Holding down the Alt key also ignore snap to grid. When rotating as normal, the part will snap every 45 degrees as in previous versions.

    Assembly confirmation

    • It is now possible to check corresponding faces in the 3D and 2D displays invidually by part. You can hide parts to see how other parts fit together. Corresponding faces are chosen by double-clicking. You can still choose faces on the 3D model.
    • When checking corresponding faces, adjacent connections are displayed. That lets you confirm parts by groups.

    Printing

    • Added the option to print lines more smoothly for bitmap printing. (This affects printing and exporting the development).
    • The print function was reviewed.
    • You can now choose custom paper sizes.

    Others

  • You can now name parts, including sequentially. For example, you can name them "face#" and they will named face1, face2, and so on.
  • Consolidated dialogs into one dialog with tabs.
  • Texture setting was moved from the "3D model window" menu to "Setting" menu.
  • When hiding an object from view, you can also permanently delete the object from the object list.
  • The assembled size display was changed from cm to mm.
  • When specifying assembled size, you can now change height, width, depth, or scale. (Other sizes are automatically changed.)
  • When exporting two or more pages, the sequential numbering dialog displays the correct file name including the sequential number.
  • You can now specify the path to a separate Pepakura Viewer in Other Settings.
  • Removed the join adjacent edges confirmation dialog shown immediately after opening 3D data. In advanced settings, you can now activate "Join adjacent edges in 3D model when open."
  • The status bar now displayed the number of parts.
  • When changing the size of the window, the size ratio of the model window and the development window are maintained.
